Mystic Woman's Club (MWC) Unity in Diversity
Mystic Woman’s Club awards scholarships and charitable grants each year from the accumulated profits of several fundraisers, including the Thrift Shop that the Club operates on Route 1 in Pawcatuck.
The Club’s highest priority is to involve its membership in the grant process by sponsoring grant applications. Members are encouraged to identify worthy recipients for charitable grants and to provide to those activities each year the Club’s formal Grant Request Form and instructions. The form becomes available each year over the winter and the deadline for the grant request to be submitted is April 1 of that year. The Finance Committee then reviews the requests and recommends grants in accordance with the club’s mission and with the amount of funds available for distribution. The Club acts on these recommendations and grants are distributed in May of the year. The Club awards scholarships to graduating seniors at each of the three local high schools: Fitch High School in Groton, Stonington High School, and Ella Grasso Tech in Groton. The amount of the scholarships may vary according to the Club’s available funds, but is typically $1000. The Club’s representative contacts the schools’ guidance counselors and requests that the schools identify scholarship recipients. The Club also accepts requests from non-profit activities and agencies of local governments to provide grant applications, and does consider those applications as well as those sponsored by members. Any agency desiring an application should contact the club at MWC@mysticwomansclub.org.
